Custom 3D Printing
By Brian
My son bought me this set of 3D printing accessories for Christmas.
We have had a 3D printer for a few years but have only printed trinkets we downloaded. We have never printed anything custom that we actually needed. Serendipitously, one of the shelves in the fridge broke, again. You can see that I had previously epoxied this bracket that broke off. It lasted a few weeks, but it broke again.
So, we took a few measurements using the new digital caliper. The new bracket needed to snap into the bottom of the shelf.
Then, we designed a custom bracket to replace the original in Tinkercad. Note that it will fit into the bottom of the shelf pictured above.
Next, we printed it out on out Creality printer. Notice the tree support structure that UtiliMaker Cura added to hold it up while printing.
Once we removed the support structure, the bracket looked great.
And, it snapped right into place. Woot!
Finally, we put the shelf back in the fridge and it the problem was solved.
Thanks to Ben for a great Christmas gift. What can we fix next?
